Assessments

Psychology
We are skilled in providing a range of assessments for children and adults who require them. Through these assessments, we can gain a deeper understanding of your overall mental wellbeing, strengths and differences, cognitive abilities, and emotional functioning. Our assessments are individualised based on age and needs of the client, as we realise that not one approach fits all.

We offer the following psychology assessments:

Autism Assessments

A comprehensive autism assessment can help uncover any developmental differences and identify personalised strategies and supports to enhance an individual's strengths and well-being. We utilise a multidisciplinary, neuroaffirming lens comprised of developmental and diagnostic interviews, behavioural observations, and parent and teacher reports (e.g., Social Responsiveness Scale [SRS] and Autism Spectrum Rating Scales [ASRS]). We also complete cognitive and adaptive behaviour assessments (as required) and administer standardised evaluation tools such as the Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum [MIGDAS-2] or the Autism Spectrum Diagnostic Schedule [ADOS-2]. We liaise with your paediatrician, child psychiatrist, or allied health team throughout the entire process.

ADHD Assessments

Our assessments can be useful for children and adults who are having difficulties with impulsivity, inattention, or hyperactivity which impacts their day-to-day functioning. We tailor our assessments based on age and needs, however we use a combination of developmental and diagnostic interviews (e.g., Young DIVA/DIVA), behavioural observations and self report measures (e.g., Conners-4, CAARS-2, WURS-25, ASRS), and collaborate information from parents, teachers/friends and family. A cognitive assessment (WISC-V) and an assessment of executive functioning (e.g., Brown Executive Function and Attention Scale) may also be utilised.

Cognitive Assessments

A cognitive assessment (e.g., Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – 5th Edition [WISC-V]) provides valuable insights into a child's cognitive abilities, including memory, attention, problem-solving, and processing speed. This helps us identify an individual’s strengths and differences to support factors which may be impacting learning or academic performance. Results can help support school funding applications and individual learning plans.

A cognitive assessment can also benefit gifted or high-achieving children by identifying their unique cognitive strengths and areas of potential underachievement. This helps ensure they are challenged appropriately and receive enrichment opportunities that match their abilities, preventing boredom and fostering continued intellectual growth.

Educational Assessments

An educational assessment (e.g., Wechsler Individual Achievement Test - 3rd Edition) investigates an individual’s abilities across multiple academic areas and is usually completed together with a cognitive assessment. It is especially beneficial to investigate whether a child has a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD). The assessment can pinpoint areas where a child may need extra support such as reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), or math (dyscalculia) ensuring they receive the targeted interventions they need to succeed.
